Barley Varietal Identification

The microsatellite marker analysis allows fast results and provides enhanced precision and reliability to determine varietal purity.

This tool was developed in collaboration with the Buenos Aires Cereal Exchange Arbitration Chamber (CABC).

DNA genetic markers offer certain advantages over traditional methods based on protein gel electrophoresis, including enhanced precision, independence of environmental conditions and increased sample representation. Total DNA is isolated from the sample and multiple microsatellite markers are subsequently evaluated. Each variety has a unique pattern that allows identification. Quantitative analysis of each DNA marker allows assessing varietal purity of the representative sample with high precision.

A reliable analysis of varietal purity is critical to achieve high-quality standards and a transparent commerce flow.
